Dead Kennedies
Ted Kennedy dies, and the right wing falls all over themselves crying about how the Democrats will -- HORRORS! -- politicize the event, naming the health care bill after him, shaming naysayers into switching their votes, etc.

Well gee, I fucking HOPE so!

I *HOPE* the Dems take the occasion for a little introspection, grow a spine, and say, "You know what?  We *WILL* pass a strong public option -- with or without Republican votes -- and we'll do it for Teddy!"

Alas, Obama is looking more and more like every other Dem.  He talks a fair game, but he's so determined to try and reason with unreasonable people, that he'll give away the farm, and they'll STILL vote against him.

There's no bargaining with Republicans these days.  All they do is scream and throw tantrums, and everybody else has to bend over backwards trying to placate them.  It's literally nuts.  When's the last time a Republican made any gesture at all towards placating a Democrat?

The Dems, on the whole, believe in compromise, in rationality.  So they seek middle ground.  The Republicans, on the other hand, see any conciliatory gesture as proof that they aren't right-wing ENOUGH, and move the goalposts even further right.

This cannot go on.  Obama needs to be the one who finally gets it -- the one who's finally not afraid to say, "Yeah, that's right.  We're actually going to move this country back to the left." ...and then DO IT.  *LET* the right wingers splutter, gasp, and fall to the floor, clasping their chests.  We'll just step over them and keep on walking...

And some of us may not be above "accidentally" kicking them while they're down.

[In other news, I've got lots of personal things to post, and will try to do so soon...]
