Dems vs Cons
What's going on in the Senate right now with health care is a perfect representation of the two political parties as they currently exist.

The Democrats are diverse. Some are honest, some are corrupt; some are intelligent, some are dumb as a rock; some are liberal, some are conservative...

The Republicans, on the other hand, stand united and proud, firmly on the side of corrupt/dumb/conservative.

Democrats are like Scientists, questioning and doubting.

Republicans are like Christians, faithful and confident (and facts be damned).

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Democrats try to do the right thing, but end up defeating themselves.

Republicans refuse to do the right thing when Dems are in charge, because it might make Dems look good. And they refuse to do the right thing when THEY are in charge, because it might hurt the profits of the megacorps which give them money (and employ them the moment they leave "public service").

Yes, Obama and the Dems are pissing me right the fuck off at the moment. Why do you ask?

While I'm generally in agreement with your characterization of the two parties, and while I've thought about it a lot, I can't say that I think it would be a fine thing for Democrats to act like ignorant ideologues, or to propagate disingenuous and factional techniques.

BTW, are you really sure you want to call me faithful and confident (an facts be damned)? If so, on what grounds aside from my falling into the class "Christian" do you want to do so? That is, if it's general, please explain. If it's embodied in how I live Christianity, please explain. If it's simply because I am a Christian-- well, I can't say I think much of that way of going on, either.

At this point, if it actually moved the football toward the LEFT end of the field, I think I'd almost be good with a "fight fire with fire" attitude. Give the right-wing a taste of their own medicine. Let THEM be the ones begging for reason while WE do whatever-the-damn-hell-we-please, for a change...

(My solution to the whole "enemy combatant" nonsense was to have Obama lock up Bush, Cheney, Rove, Limbaugh, Beck, etc as "enemy combatants" -- and make the RIGHT WING scream and holler about how the President can't be allowed to just claim ANYONE as an enemy combatant...)

And yeah, I'm generalizing "Christian" again, which is almost always unfair to you and other liberal Christians. But I think that even liberal Christians treat "faith" as a virtue -- and "faith" is just another word for believing what you want, facts be damned...
