Movie Time...
Day before yesterday, Angela and I saw "V for Vendetta" on cable.

A movie about the leaders of a country using terrorism as an excuse for fascism -- and an uprising by the people against said leaders.

I can't imagine *WHY* that would resonate...  ;)

Then, last night, we actually got to go out together (for the SECOND TIME in THREE DAYS) to go see Ghost Rider!

Even though I'm a Marvel Comics geek, we definitely weren't expecting greatness -- and sure enough, we didn't get greatness.  But it was fun -- how could it not be, with Nicolas Cage in the lead?

Gotta give 'em credit -- they didn't make the USUAL mistakes.  I'd normally expect to be griping that it was all action, not enough characterization.  IF ONLY!

We must have been halfway through the movie, before the Rider finally "flamed on" for the first time.  And then, of the first three "super-badguys" he fights, only the middle one takes more than a minute to beat.  That one was probably 3 minutes.  Even the big "final battle" wasn't exactly grandiose.

And we won't even go into all of the eye rolling Angela and I did afterwards as we actually THOUGHT about the story we saw.  Let's just say this isn't the sort of movie that improves as you work out the details.  :)

But like I said, we weren't expecting greatness.  We were expecting a firey-skull dude on a flaming motorcycle.  And we got that.  We even got a glimpse of a Western-style Ghost Rider.

I can enjoy most sci-fi/fantasy type movies, so long as I go in knowing what to expect... :)

V For Vendetta is the best movie-from-a-graphic-novel ever. Love it. Love it to death.

Seriously, me too. I need to watch it AT LEAST once or twice more to really absorb the whole thing. There's alot of subtler details I'm pretty sure I didn't fully catch the first time round.

That crowd scene at the end (without spoiling anything for anyone reading this -- anyone that hasn't seen this REALLY needs to drop everything and go rent it NOW] is simply one of the best movie moments, EVER. :)

As you know, Bob, I've never been a big movie-buyer, but I'm planning to acquire this one.

(Also still planning to buy the entire B5 DVD collection, once I don't have to spend all my disposable income on things like brake repairs. Because, believe it or not, johnpalmer has never seen it. Since he exposed me to the whole Buffy/Angel phenomenon, I figure I owe him one...)
