Celebrating Jerry Andrus
Jerry Andrus is a world-renowned magician and illusionist, whose house, the "Castle of Chaos", is just a five-minute drive across town from me.  Angela and I personally know him through our Humanist group, Corvallis Secular Society, of which he is one of the founding members.

BECAUSE we know him so casually, it's always been hard for us to believe just how well known and respected he is, in the international magic community.  We are always amazed when we hear of the circles that he (still, as an old man) travels in.  [He is personal friends with the Amazing Randi -- who once came with him to one of our CSS meetings! -- as well as Penn & Teller, and many other famous magicians.]

Jerry has recently been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer.  From the sound of things, he may not have long with us.

The mayor of Albany has proclaimed Sunday, March 18th to be Jerry Andrus day.  On that day, the International Brotherhood of Magicians will be holding a special meeting at the Venetian Theater in downtown Albany, to celebrate Jerry's life and magic -- and they have invited all of his friends, and anyone else who is interested, to attend as well.

There will be several magicians performing on stage, and ice cream sundaes, cake and other treats to be had.  Angela and I will definitely be there, and we encourage all of our local friends to do the same...
