Tribble Tribute - Unbeliever's Land
...The continuing chronicles...
Tribble Tribute
When I moved into the University of Houston (UH) dorms at the start of my freshman year, I became the "random roommate" of a tall sophomore who was intensely fond of Very Strange Music, and anything British. You all know him as unkaphaed .

We remained friends even after he quit school, and moved out into his own apartment, and got a Real Job. Years later, when I switched over to University of Houston at Clear Lake (UHCL), which didn't have dorms, he volunteered to move into a larger apartment with me and become roommates again, to save money. Later still, we both moved into a still LARGER apartment with two more college friends of ours, Rick (
rickvs ) and Rachal, to save even more money.

I have fond memories of this period of time. There were four of us, with four cats, in a crappy (but large!) hellhole apartment near Hobby airport. Good times could not help but be had by all.

Rachal started off with Timmy, a thoroughly spoiled cat she'd rescued from the animal shelter -- and soon adopted a tiny starving gray kitten with a long skinny tail, who we called Rat (or Ratlet). James started off with Theo, a neurotic black cat whose previous owners had abused him so much that he flat-out hated to be touched by humans -- and soon adopted a large fat ball of fur we named Tribble.

Over the years since that time, Timmy, Rat and Theo have all died, leaving Tribble the last feline legacy of a younger, simpler time...

But all good things must end... and as of this morning,
fair_witness reports that, at the ripe old age of 15, Tribble has finally Left The Building... :(

And so I must pay homage. Tribble was always an extremely sweet, affectionate kitty. A little goofy, and extremely spoiled. I know for a fact that he was well loved.

Even though I haven't lived in the same state with Tribble for 13 years, I miss him... and all he represents.

Hey, Tribble! Please give my love to Tarragon Gerard. She's very nice, BTW, and remained a superior mouser into her fifteenth year. :)

Thanks for the pictures of the entire Feline Guard. I don't think Rachal and I had any.

Boy, those pictures brought back some memories! Sad to say all the cats from that era are gone. My two, Ashley and Scarlett - led into mischief by Timmy and Ratlet (similar to me being led into mischief by Rachal) and litter mates to Theo were put down last year. The whole Theo attitude (and Scarlett's, but not to Theo's extent) could be blamed on Rickvs. I seem to recall the black cats were kittens of y'alls neighbors and when I went to pick my two, Rick thought they were too sleepy for me to make a good decision...so he shook up the box until the four kittens started staggering around!! Sad to hear about Tribble and the end of an era, but a most excellent tribute!
