Harry Potter movie review
Wanted to do a Harry Potter movie review right after seeing it, but for one reason or another, didn't. So here it is.

I suppose there's two audiences for the Harry Potter movies. Those who have read the books, and those who haven't.

I can't really guess what someone who HASN'T read "Order of the Phoenix" would think of the movie. Does it make sense? Could you follow what was going on?

But for those of us who DO know the book (aka The Fans), this movie was JUST like reading... the Cliff Notes. At high speed. While running to catch a bus, or something.

I mean, yeah, the crucial bits are in there -- if you're paying close attention to every detail of every scene throughout the movie. But god help you if you blink, or miss something, because this movie NEVER slows down, and NEVER repeats anything. If ever a movie needed another 20 minutes to just catch its breath, or flesh out the characters, or let us think about what we've seen, this one does.

I suppose it's inevitable -- you just can't cram 800 pages of well-written, emotional detail into a 2-hour movie. But darn it, when the Lord of the Rings movies were released, they were pushing on 3 hours. They could have given us a LITTLE more time in this one, to let us relax and enjoy the characters and the world they're in...

Ah well. Who cares about the movie now, anyway. BOOK SEVEN comes out tomorrow at midnight! :)

Current Emotional State: cheerful cheerful

I agree!

I saw it last weekend, and my first thought (after SQUEEE!) was that they're having to leave SOOOOOO much stuff out!

I'd happily watch 3 hours of Harry Potter, myself. :)
