It's alive... IT'S ALIVE!!! - Unbeliever's Land
...The continuing chronicles...
It's alive... IT'S ALIVE!!!
Yes, the new beastie has formed from its component parts, whole and complete, and sits under my desk, running Vista Ultimate.

Just in time for Service Pack 1 (which showed up to be installed last night)!

It's got a quad-core 3Ghz CPU, 4 gigs of RAM, 3 terabytes of hard drive space, and an overclocked nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX (runs faster than an Ultra).  I've actually spiked the new Windows "Experience" rating scale at it's (current) highest rating of 5.9.

It's physically as large as a small HORSE, but hey, with great power comes great... size...

If I'm doing my math right, there's no less than SEVEN fans running in that puppy, trying to keep it cool...  (4 case fans, a CPU fan, a video card fan, and an extra fan installed to blow over the hard drive wrangling cage...)

About sixty pounds of speakers and a blu-ray DVD reader make this the highest-end entertainment unit in our house...

Nothing (apart from a thousand drivers and Vista updates) has actually been INSTALLED on it yet... but that's coming.

Everything in it's time.  The uber-computer will Not Be Rushed...

Tonight, I try to figure out why it doesn't want to do printer sharing with Angela's laptop... :(

But apart from that, I have to admit -- so far, I'm actually liking Vista.  Alot...

Current Emotional State: happy happy

I figure this should be "good enough", for at least the next month or so... ;)

[nVidia has already announced the 9800 -- which will eat my new video card for LUNCH. Therein lies the heartbreak of buying into technology's bleeding edge -- you hardly blink, and you're NOT bleeding edge anymore...]

Congrats on the new beastie! With that hardware, you can even run Crysis on medium settings! ;-)

I haven't installed any of my huge backlog of games yet -- I'm trying to take it slow, installing only critical productivity apps, and making lots of system backups along the way (another nice Vista feature).

But when I do... when I do... *DROOL*...

I HAVE downloaded some nVidia graphics demo programs... Just so I can see what this puppy can really do... (OK, and show off to anyone unfortunate enough to be in the same house with me...) ;)

They will probably get installed tonight or over the weekend...
