Post-sick work to do...
Just getting over the yucky sick stuff... throat STILL gets insanely tickly, but less often.

And now to take stock of what needs to be done.

1) Changing newsletter tools

As everyone reading this already knows, I edit a monthly humanist/atheist newsletter called the Willamette Freethinker.  I really can't use Pagemaker 6.5 anymore, now that I'm running my new Vista beastie -- so I'm trying to learn Publisher enough to give it a go.

So far, it looks like Pat was absolutely right.  Publisher is a sucky tool for newsletters.  It's only virtue is that I *HAVE* the latest version (as part of Office 2007, which I got uber-cheap).

The CORRECT tool is apparently Adobe's InDesign -- but that is Seriously Not Cheap.  As in $699 Not Cheap.

Going back and checking the site again, I see that I can UPGRADE from Pagemaker 6.5 for only $199!  And there IS a free trial.  Hmmmmmm!

2) Garage Sale

It's officially 11 days until the Great Neighborhood Garage Sale -- and we have *TONS* of rubble to dig through (I mean, "cleaning and organizing to do"), before we can hope to make our Large and Highly Valuable Treasures go away.  I wonder if you can even GIVE away large non-digital CRT TVs at this point...

In any case, Angela and I are promising ourselves at least one hour in the garage each evening for the next 10 days, to try and tame the beast...

And we *STILL* have to save the entire world of Faerun in our spare time, in Neverwinter Nights 2.  It's a Moral Imperative...  :)

Have you ever used OpenOffice?

I actually seriously considered it. But I got Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 so cheap, I figured what the hell. I'm already basking in Microsoft's demonic glow by running Vista; may as well drink the rest of the kool-aid...

(Heh, Dwight's mad I didn't get a Mac that could still run Windows.)

It *IS* nice to know there's a free Office alternative out there... :)

In other news -- I've installed the InDesign demo now, and in five minutes, I'm already sold. It reads Pagemaker files! :) :) :)

And it is SO much more intuitive than Publisher...
