Another restaurant, another movie
Szabo's Steak and Seafood is one of our favorite restaurants in during our annual Coast Vacation in Newport -- and two weeks ago, they opened up a second location -- in downtown Albany!  They've taken over most of the location that was formerly Loafers (yuck!), across from the Post Office.

We haven't had a chance to eat at the new Szabo's yet, though I DID pick up a couple of their wonderful bread puddings to bring home.  :)

----

Last night, Angela and I went to go see The Happening.  Warning, minor spoilers follow...

Actually, there's not much to spoil.  The movie starts with a bang -- no pre-crisis character development here! -- and the first 2/3 of the movie are really well done and exciting.  The ending was fine, I guess, but for me, it was a bit of a letdown.

Angela and I guessed the nature of the suicide plague 15 minutes into the movie (she said it jokingly, but knowing Shyamalan, I figured it was probably true).

The characters themselves guess the nature of the plague less then halfway through the movie -- which then left me fully expecting some sort of twist ending ala Sixth Sense or The Village.  Alas, no.  It's what we thought it was, nearly from the beginning.  (Don't read Ebert's review, or anyone else's, if you want to keep it a surprise.  Apparently nobody else thought it was even surprising enough to avoid spoiling outright.)

At the end, there's some sweet character moments, and that's about it.  Oh, and the absolutely necessary "it's not over yet" final scene.  *SIGH*

Don't get me wrong -- we both really enjoyed the movie, and recommend it.  The acting is great, the menace terrifying, the story excellent.  I just... wish there was some kind of surprise payoff at the end.  The story was kinda begging for one.

Ooh - thanks for the tip on Szabos! I've seen the sign change on my way home, and I share your opinion of Loafers (where they seemed to be *addicted* to oversalting things), but I wasn't familiar with the new name. Will have to check it out, being as how it's right in the neighborhood!
