A hodge-podge of mental wanderings... - Unbeliever's Land
...The continuing chronicles...
A hodge-podge of mental wanderings...
So there I am, at the grocery store, picking up several six-packs of grape "Fruit-2-O" for my beloved wife, when behind me I hear a gasp.

"You've got springs on your shoes!"  (dashing down the aisle away from me) "Mom!  That man's got springs on his shoes!  Lookit!"

I am now the object of worship and adoration of a ten year old girl.  I can die happy.  :)

Angela's finally over her last bout with the Dread Disease.  Tomorrow, with luck, after the doggie grooming appointment, we may finally have our Valentine's Day... :)

Speaking of the doggie, Buttercup has been especially evil lately.  Waking up mommie during the night, by poking her HARD in the back.  Going potty on the bathroom floor during the night.  Stealing paper products with greater frequency and determination.  Tormenting the kitty (who HERSELF has taken to expressing her opinions, loudly, around 2am most nights...)

We love Buttercup, but... our next dog will not be a beagle.

A local mom & pop restaurant we're fond of, recently messed up our to-go order (they were having a REALLY bad night, with half their staff absent and HUGE crowds to contend with).  But they discovered the screw-up afterwards, and felt so bad about it, they actually tracked us down via a mutual friend, and sent us an apology along with a gift certificate for an entire free meal for two!  (They didn't screw up THAT badly!)

We were very impressed...

The Great Appworx Adventures have truly begun -- everyone in my office is now migrating our Banner jobs to Appworx.

The product continues to amaze us simultaneously with its brilliance and its idiocy.  The power and flexibility, combined with a horrendous user interface and sloppy under-the-hood coding, make this a truly... interesting experience.

Definitely enjoying Linux and Bash, though!  I am officially a convert from VMS...  (Though dammit, why can't any Unix variant provide us with proper, VMS-style version numbers for files?)

Obama continues to rock the White House!  Yeah, there's two or three places where I wanna scream "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?" -- but a 95% Reed Approval Rating is such an astounding difference from the past eight years, that I am walking on air...  I never thought I could feel so free...  ;)

And then to watch that Bobby Jindal "rebuttal" to Obama's amazing speech -- Oh My God, how the mighty have fallen.  THESE are the guys who've been running the show these past eight years?  (Really, the past 30.)

Even FOX NEWS thought Jindal was pathetic.  If the right-wingers hadn't hosed our economy so badly, shredded the Constitution and started two wars, I'd actually be dancing in the streets.

As it is, stunningly enough, we've actually lucked our way into the only President who could POSSIBLY hope to undo the worst of the damage.  Frankly, we don't deserve to be this lucky...

Ooh, springy shoes? Do you have pics of said shoes to post? They sound fun. :)

I'm glad Angela is feeling better. It's appalling she's been ill for so long that Valentine's Day had to wait until March!

The Obama presidency is the biggest reason I'm not hiding under the bed fearing the complete collapse of western civilization. Jindal has made himself a pathetic, sad joke. 2012 will prove to be quite entertaining with Jindal vs. Palin in the Republican primaries. Hee!

I wanna see springy shoes too! Please post!! :)

Love the restaurant story! Many many ages ago (early '80s) when I was an undergrad, a yummy independent restaurant near my college forgot the order I'd placed, and eventually remembered and I got my food. For months afterward they'd give me free fries and free baklava and were always extra nice. I still think very fondly of them!

I too have my quibbles with Obama here and there, but I also am shocked to have a ~95% approval rating for Obama. I've never approved so highly of a president! And I think I enjoy listening to him speak almost exactly as much as I didn't like listening to his criminal predecessor.

Even FOX NEWS thought Jindal was pathetic.

Wow, impressive! I know I thought he was pathetic, but... wow! ;)

So... saturday morning, I left the dog off to the groomers, and picked up a couple of sausage-and-egg-croissants at Burger Thing, to bring home...

...and Angela's spent the rest of the weekend sick again.

We knew that; we just keep forgetting because she LIKES it so much.

*SIGH* Maybe later this week or next weekend... :(

[See next post re shoes.]

Even money says you sang that song in the middle of the grocery store to the little girl in the first anecdote.
