Apologies... for having a good time. :) - Unbeliever's Land
...The continuing chronicles...
Apologies... for having a good time. :)
Sorry, sorry...  I don't like to go "lights out" for that long.

I've been working on a response to the religion discussion off and on -- nope, haven't forgotten -- and hope to get that posted before much longer.

We went to our adopted niece's first birthday party last weekend.  That was fun.  Adorable child.  Still thinks cake is for mushing between your fingers... :)

Angela's got all our Houston reservations and planning done.  It's good to have an organizer in the family.  :)

But mostly, I've spent my free time lately playing games...

A few weeks back, I was playing an old classic video game that I never thought I'd be able to play again: ULTIMA 7.

Actually, it's two games, each with an add-on -- Black Gate (+ Forge of Virtue), and Serpent Isle (+ Silver Seed).  These games are only playable on modern computers by means of a special helper application, that I'd known about for some time, but only recently gotten around to trying -- "Exult".

Exult replaces the game engine that drove the "Ultima 7" games.  Exult is free -- but you need the data files from the original games.  (Fortunately, I'd kept my game disks.)  It also adds several new features (and cheats) to the games.

It was very interesting seeing these "old friends" again -- though it's amazing how dated they look and feel.  (The original games came out 16-17 years ago).

Having played (and won) both games back in the day, I felt free to use walkthroughs and cheats to get through both games this time around.  This time wasn't about "living the game", it was more like a guided tour down memory lane.  It was fun!

Since then, I've picked up a new PS3 game to play with Angela -- Overlord.  You're basically "Sauron Jr" wandering through the landscape, killing halflings and unicorns.  For the record, though: these are MEAN halflings and unicorns.  And you can play a relatively nice "Sauron Jr", if you like.

You have four flavors of minions -- little creatures who remind me a bit of the laughing bat-thing that hung out with Jabba the Hutt.  The more creatures you kill, the more minions you can summon.  And the different minion flavors have different skills that can help you along the way.  By and large, the minions do your dirty work for you.  They fight your battles.  They break open vases and chests, collecting armor and weapons for themselves, and loot and artifacts for you.

We've just gained access to the "blue minions" -- to do that, we basically had to keep feeding "brown minions" to a water dragon, in order to get it to move, and thus make it vulnerable to attack.  Hey, nobody said the life of a minion was easy...

Anyway, now you know what we've been doing instead of posting...  :)
