A Bed Time Story...
See, it was WAY past time for Angela and me to get a new bed... get it?... Bed time...?

Anyway, the bed at the hotel in Houston was amazingly comfy, even for Angela, so we got the make & model and looked it up online when we got back...

It was the Spring Aire "Four Seasons" mattress. And within that line, they go from the basic model to "holy fuck, that's insane". Naturally, Angela fell in love with "insane"... :)

The next step was calling all the local stores. Some didn't carry Spring Aire. Some did, but didn't really have anyone who knew anything, working on the weekend. But one store, Mattress Land, had a very knowledgeable and helpful employee (Gage) who answered all of our questions on the phone...

So I went by and looked over the one they had on display. Good Lord this was a tall mattress -- 20 inches all by itself! We're gonna have to buy special sized fitted sheets to fit this monster! And the store will have to order a special short "platform" from the factory (they used to be called box springs), and we'll have to put the platform on the FLOOR (no frame or legs), to keep the bed low enough to sit on!

But it was ultra-reinforced, ultra-comfy, and it would definitely help Angela sleep better! -- so by the end of the day, we placed our order.

But the story hasn't even started yet.

You see, Spring Aire went out of business the next day! With no warning... And the day after THAT, Mattress Land announced that IT was closing most of its stores in Oregon (including the one in Albany) within a week!

So we got evil played *ALL* of our "poor me" cards:
"No factory warranty for our brand new, extremely expensive mattress *AND* not even a local store to bitch to if something goes wrong???  We should cancel our order and go to another store and get another brand of mattress..."
...and got ourselves a major break on the price.  :)

How much of a break?

Well, the "official list price" on this insane mattress is $4500.
The "real price" they generally sell for is $3000
The sale price we had BEFORE everything closed on us was $2400.
Our final price after we screwed the dead corpses of both Mattress Land and Spring Aire?  $1500.

Yeah yeah, I know, it's probably $200 worth of materials, but I don't care.  Happy happy happy.  :)

And this Saturday, the new bed arrives, and Angela will sleep like a queen (i.e. on a king)...  ;)

That is a really good price on a top of the line king size mattress. We paid in the $900 neighborhood for a middle of the line queen mattress and we caught a good sale on it.
