PROP 8 OVERTURNED!!! - Unbeliever's Land
...The continuing chronicles...
In my view, the single blight on the election of Barack Obama, was that on the same day, Proposition 8 passed in California, denying gay couples the right to marry their loved ones.

It left a sick spot in my heart.  I WANTED to celebrate Obama's victory -- I *DID* celebrate -- but Prop 8 left the whole thing feeling hollow.  Not the COMPLETE routing of the Forces of Evil we so desperately needed after eight years of President Chimp.

Stunningly -- I truly did not believe it would happen this soon -- US District Judge Vaughn Walker actually GOT THE POINT, and overturned Prop 8 today!
"Moral disapproval alone is an improper basis on which to deny rights to gay men and lesbians. The evidence shows conclusively that Proposition 8 enacts, without reason, a private moral view that same-sex couples are inferior to opposite-sex couples."
"Race restrictions on marital partners were once common in most states but are now seen as archaic, shameful or even bizarre. When the Supreme Court invalidated race restrictions in Loving, the definition of the right to marry did not change. Instead, the Court recognized that race restrictions, despite their historical prevalence, stood in stark contrast to the concepts of liberty and choice inherent in the right to marry."
Today, California sets crucial legal precedent.

Today, despite the history we now have with Obama not quite living up to his promise, at least the dark spot on his election day is finally undone.

Current Emotional State: cheerful cheerful
