There and back again: a sickie's tale
Been sick with The Plague for ten days now.

Started as a sore throat.  Which evolved into sore-throat-plus-runny-nose-from-hell.  Which evolved into wheezing-chest-plus-blowing-neon-green-crap-outa-my-nose.  Plus my ears are plugged.  But my throat's not sore anymore.  So, there's that.

Anyway, I missed work all of last week, but don't feel QUITE as bad now as I used to -- which is good, because I had a work conference in Seattle on Tuesday, and brought the wife along (who'd never seen Seattle before).

It's almost exactly a four-hour drive from our little town of Albany, Oregon.  Ya pretty much get on I-5, point the car north, and don't stop.

We left Monday at 1:15, and by 5:30 we were at the Space Needle, where we had an elegant (EXPENSIVE) dinner in the sky, while watching Seattle rotate slowly beneath us.

Angela had the best steak, lobster, and clam chowder of her life.  She was pleased!  My meal was also lovely -- and would have been lovelier still had my taste buds been working, and had I not spent the whole time blowing green stuff out of my nose...

We dawdled over dinner, then went up to the Observation Deck, and down to the Gift Shop.  We finally checked into the hotel by 10pm.

Up by 7:00, off to the conference at 9:00 (while Angela slept, watched TV and packed for the return trip).

Conference was reasonably educational.  Then I scooped up Angela, and we had ANOTHER fancy Seattle meal, this time at a New-York-style Jewish deli called Goldberg's.

Wow.  More really amazing food.  Matza ball soup (of course), plus chicken liver for Angela, plus a Reuben we split, plus latkes and cheese blintzes.  The waitress was helpful and very friendly, as was the owner, who helped us afterwards, as we picked out lots of wonderful goodies to bring home with us.

Then the long drive home.  It was a 24-hour Seattle hit-and-run -- but Angela had a blast, and I enjoyed as much as a sickie could.

So, victory achieved.  And now I'm back to work.  Just me, and my nose...

Current Emotional State: sick sick

(No! No! Cheese with flesh in a deli! No!)

I am wishing you speedy comfort. :) And I'm glad you both had a good trip. :)
